WEEKEND WEATHER FORECAST
Issued: 1500 Wednesday 16th March 2011
SATURDAY
A cold front across southeast England will be reluctant to clear away on Saturday morning, but eventually it should move into the Continent. A ridge of high pressure then builds from the west, improving conditions and bringing some fine, settled weather.
A cloudy start to the morning across the southeast with some spots of rain too. These should be clearing away quickly though and then for most of the country the morning is going to be fine with some good spells of sunshine.
Little change is expected through the afternoon, although an increase in cloud over western Scotland will bring some outbreaks of rain here with visibility reduced to moderate. Elsewhere visibility should be good.
Winds mainly W-SW 12kt ( F3 ) in northern areas, generally NE 15kt (F4) in the far south and variable 3-8kt ( F2-F3 ) in between.
SUNDAY
The area of high pressure builds further across England and Wales on Sunday with weak fronts to the north of Scotland.
The high to the south brings some morning mist and fog patches. These will be clearing away and then the day is going to be a fine and sunny one throughout. It really could be a very pleasant spring day for many with temperatures into the mid-teens and good visibility once the morning mist and fog have cleared.
Further north thicker cloud affects northern Scotland and it is here where we could find some outbreaks of rain, most of them light.
Winds will be mainly NE 11-14kt (F3-F4 ) through southern England and the English Channel, but becoming SW 10-12kt (F3) for most of the country, but SW 18-24kt (F5-F6) in northern Scotland.
