Weekend destinations from River Orwell?

The drawback to Brittelsea is the need for a water taxi to reach shore - though there were a couple of visitors' berths in the marina. How do-able depends on wind direction, usually against, but you'll have a lovely ride back.

Our weekend menu depends on how long we want to sail (and of course tide times)

Sail 1 hr - Walton Backwaters - Anchor or Titchmarsh Marina
Sail 1 hr - Ipswich (marina, bars, restaurants, shops)
Sail 2 hours - Deben - Mooring buoy at Ramsholt, Anchor (various), Woodbridge Tidemill
Sail 3 hours - Ore / Alde - Anchor / Mooring at Orford or Aldeburgh
Sail 3-4 Hours - Brightlingsea - Pontoons (no fresh water / elec) or marina (v tidal access)
Sail 3-4 Hours - Pyfleet Creek - Anchor
Sail 4-5 Hours - Bradwell Marina
Sail 4-5 Hours - Mersea Quarters - mooring - access to town
Sail 5 hours - Osea (anchorage; although now full of Romford Navy at weekends)
Sail 5 hours - Southwold

Longer than that puts you in the Crouch or the London River - Harty Ferry nice for example but no nicer than Pyefleet which is closer...

Thanks. I’m looking at 8/9 Aug, so HW at Southwold 1410. might be doable if we have an early start on the Saturday, but obviously would need to know how far after HW is safe to enter (I’m always nervous entering an unfamiliar harbour on a falling tide). Also, can you book a berth in advance? Otherwise it’s a long way to go to find there is no room....

That would be a slog as you’ll be pushing the tide all the way. A 2 o’clock ish HW would suggest you need to go south.

No one has mentioned Manningtree...... a brill Thai take away. Should be fine with your draught, maybe lay on the sailing club quay.

I think the Ore/Alde is perhaps the nicest. Butley River for peace and quiet, Orford, Aldeburgh, Iken Cliff and dinghy up to Snape.

As per my previous post I have decided to go to Brightlingsea this weekend for that very reason!

I‘ll be having another weekend trip with a couple of mates on my boat, which is based at Suffolk Yacht Harbour. I’m thinking of where to go and would be grateful for some suggestions, preferably finishing up on the Saturday night at a mooring or anchorage within rowing distance of a pub. We’ve already done the usual this year (River Deben, Rough’s Tower, River Stour, Hamford Water), and I’m wondering where to go next. Aldeburgh maybe? Any other suggestions? I wondered about Brightlingsea but it can be a bit of a slog just for one night.
