I have a Webasto Thermo Top Z C/D (ex Rover 75), and have also aquired an Eberspacher 7 day timer. The Webasto only seems to have 5 wires from it, a black and orange/red in one connecter and 3 wires in a 6 way connector (these look like green, yellow and brown). Does anyone know if the 2 items can be used together?

They are not compatible anyway but the Thermo top should have three conductors to the timer, but as its from a car the cabling is likely to be completely different and many are controlled by the vehicle ECU. The three cables if in a small 4 pin square plug may be the timer connection but the colours bear no relation to a standard schematic for a marine / RV heater where te colours are black, red and brown. the only other connection is for the summer winter switch

Webasto and to a lessor extent Eberspacher seem to do a lot of specials for different vehicle manufacturers. ECUs can be special and colour coding is often to the vehicle spec rather than normal heater stuff.
Perhaps you can get a Rover electrical diagram showing the wires.
You can also look inside the unit, using the webasto circuit you will at least be able to identify the two leads for the pump, the rest may be an issue.
As David says the heater may expect some 'input' from the vehicle ecu such as a miniminum temperature value.

Another point to bear in mind if it is a TTZ, which is a suplamentatry heater rather than a parking heater it will not have a water pump so that will be a clue to the model, though a TTZ is simply a TTC without pump.

In honesty I'm not worried about having a timer, just being able to switch it on and off would be great. The Eberspacher timer I have came for free from a friend so it's not great loss that it won't work (but it is a shame). I was hoping for a simple fix but it seems like I'll have to have a good read round. I thought someone else on here had used a Rover 75 heater to good effect on their boat. I'll have to try the 'search' function again........

If you PM me an email address I can send you a manual that shows in pictures the pin outs of the six connectors (well 5 as one is unused) on top of the heater, from that it is a simple matter to identify the cables regardeless of colour coding, does it have a water pump fitted? a number of installation are a simple switch anyway so no problem there, or you can use a cheap heatmiser 12v network timer with some mods.

That would be great please - PM sent. Mine does indeed have a water pump fitted which I think (hope) is a good start.

That makes it a parking heater rather than a suplementary heater so indeed a good start as the pumps are not cheap, only issue may be the ECU, some of which restrict the burn time and keep switching off. Manuals including dedicated marine install details sent.
