Webasto smell of diesel on startup?

I have two. I remember the old days of gas water heaters.

Yep . Been in the gas industry since 1979 . Open flued appliances always the killer . That and the odd meter tampering explosion .

None of my heaters have ever had a drain from the exhaust. That would be alright on a vehicle, but surely not in a boat.

It's in the manual (both Eber and Webasto), and it's required in boats to allow condensation to exit the exhaust. It's only letting water drip out. You may not have noticed it, it's often just a short bit of tube with a nut on next to the exhaust outlet.

I've looked at the installation instructions, and it's an optional extra, where an exhaust elbow is fitted, and recommended if the exhaust is more than two metres long. Thankfully neither of these conditions apply to my present or past heaters. My exhaust outlet faces down, and has flex s/s tubing up to the exhaust outlet. The drain would appear to be simply a curly piece of small bore copper tube, for which some suppliers charge more than the total cost of my present heater!

It’s not always curly tube, but yes that’s one option. Either way, OP knows to check for it now because it is a very likely candidate.
