Webasto Problems

Had need of some heating this weekend but found that after 10 mins of blowing hot air the system shut itself down along with a smell of half-burnt diesel, some carbon smuts from the exhaust, and 10 long flashes and 5 quick flashes from the controller. Fuel supply looks good, volts were adequate, and generally everything else appeared OK. This could be repeated time and again.

Any advice would be welcome!

10 long flashes is the key - Webasto fault list indicates it's overheating; and thus shutting down

Sounds like an F10 overheating failure.

Main failure could be a restricted or crushed pipe.

Disconnect the inlet pipe and run the system. That will check if it is an inlet blockage. Reconnect after running it.

Then disconnect outlet pipe and run it to see if that cures it. Reconnect.

Then check the 2 grommets under the grey cover for no air escaping.

Then check the bottom of the heater unit for air leak around the rubber gasket.

Then call JPC Direct in Norwich, who are lovely blokes.

I'm getting the same problem, but I think I may have identified the root of it. The heater is in a large locker. The outlet pipe then runs forward before turning downwards and disappearing under the floor, before passing through a bulkhead into the saloon. This is where I store the dinghy. It appears that my efforts at stowing the dinghy have, over time, crushed the pipe and I think this means the the pipe upstream of this blockage is gradually getting hotter and hotter.

I need to replace this part of the pipe run and come up with a solution that stops it getting damaged again in the future.

Check to see whether any part of your pipework is damaged.
