I have now got around to getting the webasto heater (HL18D) working. I have found it is supplied via two fused lines (15A and 7.5A). The heater control is a simple thermostat with two rocker swithces - I/O and hi/lo.

When my investigation started the 7.5 A fuse was found to be blown.

Fuse replaced and heater turned on - fan runs for approx 2 mins then the fuse blows and the fan stops. with the fuse blown the fan will again run for 2 mins and then stop.

i have attemoted to run the system and managed to blow 4 fuses so far and now have admitted that it aint gonna work withiut more investigatioins.

The system has been idol as the boat was laid up since 2003.

The thermostat control does not give any falshes etc.. to indicate a fault code.

Short of take it out and send it to Mr Wabasto has anybody got some ideas?

thanks

I have a HL32D which has two 20 amp fuses - if the fuse blows after 2 minutes this is probably about the time the glow plug kicks in and pulls the voltage down (ie big power pull).

I would try to find a manual and see what size fuses are recommended - I would imagine yours wouldn't need anything smaller than mine - perhaps a bigger fuse is the answer?

mine had 2 differing fuses ( brown & red ) cant remember the values but cant belive 2 x 20 Amp is correct.
cant check as its packaged up ready for payment on ebay /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

the new Mikuni works fine /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

It does sound like the fuse is failing when the high 'igniter' current is required. The 20 amp fuse should be the one on this circuit with the 7amp protecting the instrumentation.
I dont know this model though, is there some sort of relay?
Good luck

Could be... but would that not be protected by the 15a fuse not the 7.5 cause that would be the highest drain... perhaps the fuses are a**e about face. The wire on the 7.5 is red and black... anyone able to confirm if thats right?
