My Webasto Thermo 90 was recently o/hauled by a Webasto dealer.Ran ok while sun was out and battery voltage above 12.5volts.Below it failed to start even after the normal second attempt.Switched on again and started ok but terrific amount of smoke due to the unburnt fuel. Can only assume the glow pin had some residual heat.New genuine Webasto glow pin fitted and now ok. It appears there are Chinese copies and I had one fitted by the dealer ! I assume they are a lot cheaper and was paying for a genuine part.Keep your eyes open guys could happen to you!!Caused me a lot of .

Wouldn't mind PMing me who it was (in confidence) would you?

The symptoms you describe can also be due to slightly poor electrical connections. I had to use a 25 amp fuse that was not the correct shape for the holder, which introduced some resistance. The Eberspacher would only start when the engine was running and voltage over 13. When I replaced the fuse with the correct one it ran perfectly on batteries.

It does not take much in the way of a slightly tarnished connection to interfere with start up performance. There are several multipin connectors in my wiring loom, not easy to dismantle. I avoided the problem by taking a new 6mm2 cable to the glow plug from the battery via a relay. The old glow plug wire operates the relay. It is fused at 25A. Had no problems since. It used to belch white smoke as diesel built up in the exhaust. Horrible. No more :-)
