Webasto Airtop 5000 repair.

Their is a place called JPC who deal with Webasto they dont cut corners. FYI Did you know you should run the heater at least once a month for an hour? We had problems with the 5500 earlier this year and we sent it to one team in Hamble they failed then another guy in Portugal who wanted to replace the exhaust (black soot) fail. then finally of all places a company in Alicante Spain took it off and fixed it and gave us a full computer diagnostic report showing all tests carried out.

Send it to Spain :-)))

Jpc would be my first point of call

Before you remove and send it anywhere it is best to make sure the fault is with the heater unit and not the pump or control, external temp sensor etc. what are the symptoms and if possible flash fault codes or number readout if you have a controller that shows it?
I am an approved Webasto service centre so could do it for you if you wish.

Thanks, here are the symptoms.

The heater is 11 years old, its had one new fuel pump and burner chamber about 5 years ago.

The fault is intermittent, I have run the heater regularly through the summer as we use it to dry the heads shower compartment.

The day before the problems started it ran all day with no problems.

The next day the heater fires up, I can hear the flame burining although it sounds as if it isnt burning properly, then it gets to the stage where the fan ramps up to full speed and the heater just cuts out, it will repeat this starup sequence a number of times and then finally go to diagnostic fault mode, cannot remember how many flashes offhand maybe 2 or 3.

The next day it started up fine first go in the morning, then later in the day it failed again with the same problem.

There is plenty of fuel, its running through a large extenal filter and no voltage problem.

Spain 672 783 806 for Alicante
Spam 96 541 66 93 for Santa Pola

We had an expensive repair but i checked the price in the UK with JPC and the price was about the same for the repair. Now they have two locations. A small chandlers in Alicante or a full work shop in Santa Pola the latter is where the repair was undertaken and its a 50 EURO round trip by taxi if you want to inspect it at their work shop.

The English is a slight barrier but if you speak Spanish perfect. Like i said we got ours repaired and used my broken Spanish.

Edit: having just read your post on the problem i would go to Santa Pola and see the Webasto computer generated diagnositc report for yourself or at least have it translated for you.

Probably 2 flashes as 3 is voltage issue and you have discounted that, presumably by measuring at the heater during start?

2 is simply flame out, so probably not evaporating and getting hot enough by the time the fan ramps up so is being extinguished, usually a good decoke and or new burner will sort that kind of thing out. There has been a service bulletin with upgraded burner and tube for that heater too, but most of them will already have that swapped out by now.

Now that winter is almost here my Webasto right on cue has failed again.
A Google search for someone to repair it turned up these people - http://www.mellorautoelectrical.co.uk/shop.php?action=index
Does anyone have any experience of them or have a recommendation of a reliable repairer. We are in Plymouth but as I will take the heater out it really doesn't matter where they are.

Not used them for repair work or service, but bought some replacement parts and service kits from them.
Price at that time was very good, and the guy I dealt with, Stuart, was very helpful on the phone, and was kind enough to send me a heap of advice in trouble shooting a problem.

I strongly recommend you email Andy. <motorhomeandcaravanservicing@gmail.com> He is an expert on these heaters and is very honest and conscientious. You won't pay boat prices and he is likley to guarantee the work.
