What is your experience of using a PC and some software for receiving synoptic weather charts and NAVTEX reports via a SSB radio?

Any good software packages to particularly recommend?
Any other useful stuff which can be done?

Seatty is one which has a good fax and navtex engine even if it doesn t look as smart as some.

I think you will find there is no software Hffax as this is a web site where the owner collects other folks software and details.

Also look at JVfax32 software.

The better the receiver the better the better the chances of getting
clear faxes.

Tried SEATTY for the first time this weekend as a bit of an experiment. After improving my reception by re-working the ariel connections, I managed to get some really quite good results and so have just paid to register the software. So download for free and give it a go, you don't have to register it if you are not happy and it will stop working after the trial period has ended.

Nope, my hffax.exe isn't a web site...

There's plenty of freeware stuff on the web, and if you realy want to get serious try hunting for DSP software .. fascinating, but time consuming if all you want is a chart.

Thanks for the pointers.

I have a Skanti TRP 7203 MF/HF with active aerial tuning and ground plate on the exterior of the hull.

Also a ICS Weatherfax 4 which seems to be dead.
My Navtex only does 518KHZ so some software on a PC seems to be the way to go.

Looks like I will be experimenting.

Oh I forgot where Marius started :) I believe he wrote hffax originally however we have moved on from there now and you might be pleasantly surprised how well the likes of Seatty perform in low signal conditions .

I believe I have hffax on an old dos laptop somewhere:)
