Can somebody tell me the best internet site for checking the what the weather is going to be doing this weekend in Southampton.

Have some no-boaty folk coming down on Sunday and don't really want to take them out if its going to be wet and windy.

Thanks

Joanne

Well.... this is where I go and look. I hate putting my forecasts down on paper - there is so much opportunity to be wrong!

this is the one you want. Or in English - fronts progressing slowly to the East, with rain, possibly heavy ahead of each front. Cloud cover will be significant I'd guess between 5/8 and 8/8. Humidity could well be lower than average, particularly after the showers (so it wont be too clammy in oilies)

Taking the two together - I'd say the weather will be indefferent to awful. You should expect significant squalls due to the cooling effect as the rain pulses go through. The chances that the wind will be less than F4/5 are slim. The Solent will be rough (as the wind will be dminantly from the West) although if the cloud were to clear the wind could swing more Southerly than forecast.

Oh and lastly - temperature. I dont normally worry about temperature, but I suspect they will be below average, and when taken with the wind chill could feel pretty cold afloat.

With a novice crew - perhaps the pub would be better!

developing in the western approaches ... have a look at this . It looks like a depression about to develop within a deppression about to develop!!

Still the one I check several times each day which gives up to the hour current weather conditions is

http://www.xcweather.co.uk

Doesn't give any forecasts but has saved me many wasted trips.

Re: A portal

I setup a web site last week which is a very fast loading portal and has quicklinx to all the weather info you could possibly want. I also have a page that is designed for PDAs too.

You can download the shipping forecast as a txt file in about 4 kilobytes (great for on the move). Links to inshore forecasts and general weather too.

There are 2 URLs you can use, which one do you like the sound of the best?

Enjoy

Re: A portal

Thanks.

I now have added a link to the UK inshore waters forecast which downloads in just 2 kilobytes - great for pdas.

Good cruising
