But Thomas1, Admiral and I had a whale of a time ropund the Solent instead ....

Friday we poked our nose passed Nab Tower to start our Channel crossing ..... but found that it was hard going into the wind and really we didn't fancy engine all the way into such lumpy sea etc. So turned round and returned to Solent ...

We made Folly Inn for that night ... and then to Yarmouth for Saturday ... returning home Sunday afternoon.

From Yarmouth to Hayling with a good tidal current up the arse - we hit over 7.5kts in the old girl with full sail up .... she was flying...

Thomas1 here all kitted up and ready for his Southern-ocean bit :

A truly great week-end ----- sad that we couldn 't have joined everyone at Cherbourg .... maybe next time we'll have better luck ....

Thanks guys for a fab sail that weekend ....

Missed you (again) /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I checked the weather forecast before setting off on Friday, and as a result delayed our departure until after lunch. Result - sailed all the way (albeit with a bit of help from the engine for the last part).

Glad you had a good weekend anyway.Long beats or motoring to windward are not much fun so a wise decision I think.

Time it right and you could have had two lots of 6 1/2 hours beating and making way and 6 1/2 hours of stemming the tide /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

After all, we are here for the sailing /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They are after all in sheltered waters in what looks like a very secure cockpit.Skippers/personal choice IMHO.

Lifejacket comments ??

Not starting an argument here ... but just replying to it :

It is a personal decision for each to wear or not wear a Lifejacket. I provide 2 manual inflation jackets and 3 buoyancy aid jackets on my boat for anyone to use if they wish.

If the weather deteriorates then I would normally request ... note : REQUEST ..... others to don one or other depending on their choice .....

It is not a matter of fashion and I only post this reply to illustrate that I am not a person to ignore safety.....

Little bit unfair sarcasm there I think Searover ..... let's enjoy our boats and what we do without sarcasm ???? We had a marvelous weekend albeit not in Cherbourg ... so please do not spoil it ....

Seems to me that all those pictured have plenty of build-in buoyancy /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
