weather stations as wireless wind instrument

We would like a wind instrument.Cost about 180--00 for the cheapest...but a pain to lead down mast etc.etc.
Tack tic offer a wireless one for about the same price as 3rd world country debt!!
so...wots the crack on using a wireless weather stn such as the oregon scientific one for about 200 quid and sticking that on the masthead.all advise welcome ;especially those with a boat and a weather stn

I just bought a Oregon Scientific professional weather station with wind direction wind speed inc gusting humidity and rain sensors all wireless for £265 from compass24 works really well can even store all info on computer

But you will only get Apparant wind.

And that will be presented as True, so you then have to subtract your heading ..

I'd also almost guarantee it isnt built for salt water environment, nor capable of having a reasonable damping applied.

I fitted an Oregon Scientific 928 on my boat two years ago.
For my needs (motor boat), it works just fine.
Very easy to fit, plenty of other functions besides wind.
But of course, neither your heading nor your speed are taken into account.

you won't believe it, but it does work well also when the boat is sheltered !
