Hi guys/gals,

I have just changed computer and "lost" all my favourites on my browser. Including the weather sites. So which do you rate as the best forecast places for sailing purposes? Please add a link, if you can.

Cheers

Magic Seaweed can be useful - it's primarily a surfers' site but the wave frequency and height data can be useful. In the Solent, we have several weather observation points on buoys, such as Bramblemet and its associated sites at Chichester Bar, Southampton Dockhead and Camber Dock in Pompey, which give real time data. I don't have links for the West Country but I suspect there are similar sites down there - very useful for a snapshot of the here and now.

Finally, Mark Stronge's Weather Portal. Not a weather site in itself, but has links to lots of online weather resources including - I'd guess - most of those mentioned here. An added bonus is that it's quick to load, so it's particularly useful if you're trying to access it from a dodgy/slow connection. I think Mark S is a Forumite, though he doesn't post very often.

weather sites

I've searched all these sites for some decent weather next week as off cruising. They all give wind and rain. Please can someone recommend one that gives blue skies and fair breezes?

www.grib.us

you have to download a programme but it is a great overview of the pressure systems to complement the websites already mentioned.

I use the grib.us to give me an overview of the north atlantic and the weather systems likely to be movign around in the coming 5 days, then use e.g. windguru, xc-weather for localised forecasts.

Well according to Google Earth its about 1800 miles, so as long as you can average a good 300 miles a day you'll have time for a beer before you have to head back :)
