I second that, having just fitted AIS last week. There are other uses for Navtex I have the old printer type which I much prefer also have it set up the print Position course and SOG every hour or each time there is a course change of more that 15deg I find this useful especially if things get busy for one reason or another and the chart and log are forgotten in the heat of the moment.

We get Oostende Radio broadcasts clear as a bell. Also Cap Gris Nez signal station. Don't get the Dutch for some reason I haven't yet fathomed.

When abroad I always think that their local forecasts are so much more accurate than ours.

Maybe I am not comparing like with like!

Oostende is VHF 27 isn't it? Can't remember the times - expect they are in my log book!

Think it is 27. Can't recall times but announced on 16 anyway. Reception is v good in the Harwich area.
