Just reviewing the weather for tomorrow and the Met Office are saying there is a low risk of moderately high impact of torrential downpours in (inter alia) Essex and Southend-on-Sea. From which I conclude that it is uncertain if it will rain very badly but it is certain that Southend is no longer part of Essex.

It does seem that Burnham on Crouch has its own micro climate which is often drier than the overall essex footprint. with any luck the Romford Navy will look at the general forecast and not venture out here to swamp us with the wake of their gin palaces or deafen us with their personal water craft........

anyone know if there's any truth in the rumour that the Krays had a caravan at Steeple in their heyday?

They have a special shade of white for their stilletos in Sarfend.... so deserve their own weather!

Quite right. Lived there for over 20 years and lost count of the number of times it was a reasonable day in Burnham but raining in Chelmsford. Think it applies to a lot of the East coast which is the driest part of the country.

St Osyth is claimed to be the driest recorded place in the UK, with an average of just 513 mm per year. (Wikipedia)

I was on the Kray witness protection team!
