Went out today 11-30 hrs from Burnham to Buxey 2 to anchor off to see the Seals. Every forecast gave F3-4, it was a steady 5 gusting 6?

When will this wind ever moderate? Is the Crouch unpredictable?

same problem - we were going to go to yokesfleet creek and anchor overnight having carefully checked the forecast to avoid exactly the problem you describe. as it was i chalked up another instance of not being able to trust any weather forecast.

Inshore waters was from 0600 was (from memory) " W or SW 3-4 5 or 6 for a time in south"... I thought that was pretty accurate... It was a horrible dead run out of the Crouch though, and a dead noser back into Mersea

We came back from Tollesbury yest (sun ) next to wind to start with and up to the swallowtail W bouy then a steady increase right up 25 knots on the nose , watched a few hardier souls doing battle beating up the crouch but that's to much like hard work so it was donkey all the way , I'm starting to wonder why we bother with sailing at all really ..

We came out of the Crouch on a dead run, leaving BYH at 10:00 on Sunday, creaming along (for us) at about 6+ knots, some strong gusts but we only had the main out. Intentionally gybed once, and wore round twice, as the wind picked up.

Rounded up at the end of the Whitaker channel with full main and 2 reefs in the genoa. Fetched West Mersea in 4 Tacks. Fantastic sail for once. Arrived 15 minutes before planned and gently touched the mud as we came into our berth in Tollesbury, which cancelled out the gusts, just reached out and pulled ourselves in. (Mud berth).
