Weather forecast Wind Guru

Am also a fan. What I appreciate is having virtually 8 days of predictions.
But the PRO version is hardly cheap at 18 euros per annum, so convince me Blue . . .

I use a mixture to Local CI met forecasts, XCweather, windguru, looking out the window and a large dose of common sense.

I am highly unimpressed with our very expensive ( to the taxpayer) local official forecast which is vague and often downright innacurate as well as gicing you a max of only 48 hours which is no use if you need to plan a long weekend or dtart a holiday.

I watch the wether develop and I generally find xc and widguru not only more accurate but also much more user friendly.

Wind Guru Pro has the following features over the free version.

The most important to me is that it is 12 hours newer than the free which is delayed by 12 hours. XC seems to follow the delayed version. The main advantage of xc is that it tells you what is happening now at any point.

I have no connection with either except I use both and find them good over a period of four or five years and I have paid my e 18.3 and I am very pleased with that purchase.

I used it two years ago to sail up the West coast of Portugal.

I just picked half a dozen surfing spots from the chart and estimated my predicted time of passing them. I therefore had a pretty comprehensive idea of what to expect along the way. Worked a treat.

I use XC weather and windguru and have more confidence in them than shipping forecasts, having made many comparisons over 4/5 years these site are right more often than SF for NW uk/Eire.
An interesting site is magic seaweed that shows swell charts which are also good for passage planning.

I'd forgotten about Magic Seaweed...it's good isn't it! For anyone sailing off the Atlantic coasts of the British Isles, swell is as important as wind. Even a F4 running at angles across a big swell can make things mighty uncomfortable. In strong winds it can be really bad news ('79 Fastnet).
