Mid Kent 6 gusting 8 with a smidge of 9.Rain and distinctly unpleasant.
Extensive damage to garden, well the trellis supporting the Honeysuckle has blown flat.
56 Kts on Chi Bar at around 7.00am. Thats why I am up so early for a sunday! Quiet outside now though. 20kts or so. Solent MRSC gave a peak of 67mph, and Thorney 61mph
Our barometer shows that there was a drop of 36mb over a six hour period in the night but I managed to sleep through that bit. My boats still there but all the cobwebs are gone.
Still waiting to here from my boy who was out camping on Dartmoor (he had no say in the matter its a services thing)
Here on the bonny banks of Loch Lomond, the seagulls are flying backwards ,the roof has blown off my neighbour's shed and the river has burst it's banks. Apart from which,it's fairly mild for the time of year.
Not too bad here. About an two hours ago they cancelled the Frostbite race. Someone was out trying the weather. It's been gusting up to 40mph since about 11.00am, but is a bit calmer now.
The threads on here on mast climbing could do to try this
The guys on the 1720 next to me got the call and put their sails away again, got in the tender and went home
Left our wind instrument on last night and recorded 57 knots in Falmouth harbour. Not much fun for liveaboards but nothing a bottle of wine and some ear plugs won't cure while lovely husband looks after the boat. Looking at ITV Westcountry news it would seem much worse in Plymouth...they haven't got it online yet but a long line of yachts toppled like dominoes in car park of QAB marina.
I sympathise with you, but I feel more for these owners at QAB.... I was only there yesterday afternoon, and its a weird feeling knowing all was fine yesterday, and now.....
Dozens of yachts knocked over by the wind....
We apparently had gusts to 130mph causing the damage at QAB, a yacht hitting the Torpoint ferries, the ferries being cancelled, the Tamar Bridge closed to all traffic.....
Midday, on Saturday, the wind was blowing at 40mph ish across Striding Edge, on Helvellyn. Forecast for Saturday night/Sunday morning was 100mph +, so we decided to have a leisurely breakfast and forego the delights of a return visit!
Despite the driven hail and heavy rain I think I was happier walking than sailing this weekend!
here in South Wales we didnt get the full force experienced on the South coast, what I did notice was that the steady wind force was about 35 knots but with very sudden violent gusts going way off our clock .
I think it was the big difference between the steady wind and the gusts that caused so much damage.
