Wearing wellies...

I don't wear wellies during the summer, and take extra care in winter when we leave our dinghy chained to a pontoon to access the boat, and it is generally much easier (and drier) to wear wellies.
Ive always regarded them as somewhat dangerous, but recently ive been thinking that they must be the biggest death traps going.
Trying to haul someone out the water with lots of foul weather gear is difficult enough but surely, if said person had wellies on, there'd be no chance! And if solo.... there is no way of removing them once submerged, although having said that if someone fell in with no one else on board, chances wouldnt be promising anyway.
Does anyone always wear wellies when on deck? Am i being a bit overly cautious?

I started last weekend, I was on my sea survival course and could not believe how buoyant they were with those wearing them, not a problem at all from what I saw, even dragging people into the life raft.

Sailing boots may be ok but normal eg Hunter wellies are

lethal I nearly drowned when i fell off a pontoon whilst

flyfishing in South Africa due to [--word removed--] wellies

Had to take 'em off then swam to the side easily
