we heard the first Cuckoo @ Collimer yesterday

Heard our first one on Foulness on Saturday evening,[and at 1st light this morning]
Do they call at night? I thought I heard one before dawn last Wednesday, but may have been dreaming.

All I've heard are those blasted collared doves. Sometimes they give a hoot that sounds quite like a cuckoo and, present company excepted, I wonder how many "cuckoos" are actually doves.

Heard my first one here in Pin Mill at 0600 today, had to get up that early in order to be at Harwich in time to go on the Committee boat for the North Sea Race start.

Quick plug here for the Harwich Haven Authority, they provide us with the use of the Haven Hornbill each year to use as Committee boat. No charge, and it is an excellent start platform, lots of space to walk about, very stable. Also given its unboat like shape it is pretty fast.

I liked this bit describing what kind of race it is on the website :-

"This is the longest race in the EAORA programme and has been described as 180 miles of frustration. "

Anyone had a go ?
