Last I heard was that most countries / towns LOST money because of Olympics ......

Nice one TB ..... now I am joking ..... I like the idea of Olympics - but the hypocrisy is terible. The IOC get all hot and vocal about Amateur status etc. of the competitors .... but what about the profiteering and backhanders necessary to get on the possibility of being considered ........... they say IOC is the richest Sport Committee ....

Me - give it to France - let them spend .....

I pay a fortune in council tax as it is, and for seriously mediocre services. Kenny the red's already promised to take £100 off me for it. I doubt I'll get away with less than £500 in practice, 'cos he's even better than GB when it comes to reducing my income and increasing my expenses /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I could say plenty but won't. I feel sorry for the non sporty types who'll be paying for them for many years before and after the events are over. The sporty types I presume will be aware of the extra money that will come out of their pockets ? Funny how we can have a referendum about something as nebulous as ratifying the European tReaty but not something as solid as the Olymoics that will affect evry one of us financially, whether we like it or not.

BBC SW from Plymouth has just shown an excellent programme in Spotlight South West, all about the National Sailing Academy at Portland and Weymouth which when the time comes we will be glad to let the rest of you see. And the M25 car park is not the only motorway in the country, y'know. We got one that actually has moving vehicles on it - sometimes. Called the M5
