Here in Venice at the end of August after two months sailing, the kids have started in the local school and I start my Italian evening classes!

Our departure from the UK in July was delayed a week by the weather. But we then got down to the golf of Cadiz in seven days. Really fantastic sailing. We paid for it later because the last 50 miles into Gibraltar took us over 24 hours pushing against a proper easterly gale.

I don’t think we saw another forumite on our travels through the Balearics, Sardinia Ionian and Croatia – where were you all?

The only bad moment was a DOB. Off shore in F6 andF7s with a sea running our dog decided to fall overboard. She is a sort of Jack Russell/Fox Terrier type and was swimming for her life. Luckily someone saw her go over as we were sailing at 8kns. With some difficulty we kept her in sight. We have never done it for real before and it certainly is not something I want to repeat too often.

Her name is lucky….

P.S Before we left the forum was full of talk about the challenge of anchoring in the med which we did extensively. We found it no more difficult to anchoring along the south coast of the UK.

are you staying in venice for awhile as we may be there early next year for a look round.
lucky(no pun intended) about the dob at least all ended well, its our biggest fear with daisy, its hard to get them out even in a marina, bin there done that, congrats on a good trip

I'm just down the coast in Trieste. Are you planning to coming down this way for the Barcolana in October? (Barcolana: regatta involving 2000 yachts from maxis with America's CUp crews to 7m, and a major party generally). Are you berthed at S. Elena?

hi metabarca
we are on the Giudecca and it would be hard to live on a boat in a more central location.

Doubt that we will leave our mooring until next summer as we are so busy with schools, work and our new life in Italy generally.

Do pm if you plan to visit Venice.

Thanks David we had to go for it given the constraints of school and work. Even still we managed a far bit of beach. We will do a lot fewer miles next year and see more of Croatia and the Ionian.

We will look out for you then.
