Waxoyl and barnacles

Hi. I can say catagorically that lanolyn doesn't work.
Eddie.

I beg to differ.
Flap came out of the water on Sunday with heavy fouling after three years on a loch mooring. Anywhere the barnacles could get a hold, they did. Then the mussells got hold of the barnacles... on anodes and pintle bolts etc. The exception was the prop which only had a layer of slime. The prop has had the hot anhydrous lanolin treatment for the last ten years.
Even the prop-shaft, which was not lanolin treated had become home to critters.

I bought the expensive International prop anti-fouling, when Captain Watts in London was closing down. The prop was immaculate, used the primer, then several coats of the VC based anti-foul. Just as fouled. I have tried ordinary anti-foul, no anti foul, polishing etc to no effect. Boat currently has Jotun Sea Queen, excellent. No barnacles on the hull, just slime, and weed on the waterline. Prop was coverd in barnacles. I shall try Waxoyl next time. Wonder what the motor cycle lube was? I have a can and tub of the AC-50 ( I think that's what it's called) which I could try.

I must admit that when lift out comes, I will be using m/c chain lube. Years back when I was a m/c courier, I used it a lot and the way it stayed on despite the huge centrifugal forces and the repeated crushing as the chain went round the sprockets impressed me no end. One application each week and presto, a chain that was stil usable after 50,000 miles! Gotta be worth a try.

only 50,000 miles on a chain ?

Drive shafts are only just getting to be run in by then ! :D

But then I am BMWiased.
