Hi New to the group, and to canal boating. Have a little 18ft Wavey Rider to do up as our 1st boat/ project!
Hoped that others in the group have knowledge/ advice as we are finding info on these boats hard to come by!

Want to refit, update and repair it etc. Any advice and knowledge would be very welcome.
TIA 😊

My mate had a 24ft (I think) Wavey Rider which he took to France on our club cruises.
You will be better off posting on the Practical Boat Owner forum as that caters for both sail and power.
If you look on Facebook for Brian Ewald he will be able to tell you more.

Hello, I've just joined this community following your message showing up in a Google search. We've owned an 18ft Wavey Rider since 1991 and have had many happy times on Wales & South West England canals. Yesterday I moved her from The Tiverton Canal (Grand Western) to the canal linking Taunton with Bridgwater in Somerset, Currently the engine (also of the same age as our boat) has been removed for maintenance.... and need to make repairs to the transom. I don't know that I can answer every question you raise but I'm happy to try 8¬) Best wishes

That's nice looking boat. Is the hull the same as another make of boat? Can't remember what the name was that I am thinking of. If it is the same it has a fairly deep vee hull for an inland boat. A mate put a 2 litre Ford and Enfield outdrive in it. To say it was fast is an understatement!

Thanks, not sure if other makes of boat had the same hull, but this one it isn't built for speed (canal 4mph max) and I wouldn't take it out to sea!!

Bought a new Wavey Rider back in the late’70s. Kept her on the Lancaster Canal then up in the Lakes. Moulded in Tollesbury if I remember correctly, not sure of the name of the company who made them. Simple design, easy to look after. Good luck with the refit!

You're right they were built in Tollesbury by the company "Wavey Rider" (I understand Rider was the owner's surname) together with several other models including a stretched version of the "Wanderer" for the Lake District.... Not sure the 18ft Wanderer (which I have) was built as early as the 70s - mine was new late 1980s... great little boat - even in the rain we're getting today we could cruise with the roof slid shut 8¬)
