I saw a couple of months ago i can't remember which issue of PBO an ad for a wave motion bilge pump (not the Drainman) it was around £80 does anyone remember it or know what it was as i'm looking for one.

Dave,

I thought I had the answer but it turns out to be the 'Drainman', you don't get anything for free - like perpetual motion - but it seems OK, what's wrong with it ? - a genuine question.

Wave powered pumps are an old idea, I'd think the modern answer might be a small solar panel with a battery and float switch etc, but it's a lot of hassle and expense compared to wave power.

I have seen mixed reviews on the Drainman quality being the main one plus i'm not keen on it being on the mooring line.

It works quite well I have it connected to a plastic dustbin lid with a short line the resistance to it lifting the lid is enough to pump water out of the deepest bilge

When it was new I also used it for a laugh in getting cold beer out of a bottle while it was still in the fridge.

Wave pump

Hi,
I've used a couple of wave motion pumps similar to this previously, in an open 17' fishing boat:

Works well, even though I was living in Bergen, Norway at the time, and there was plenty rain!!. Never seemed to last more than two seasons though. If you are in a sheltered bay with little wave motion, and high rainfall, it might not work so well.
