At the Southampton Boat Show on Saturday I fell head over heels in love with the Wauquiez 40ft Pilot on display there. Before I spend the next five years trying to raise the money to buy one, does anyone know of any vices/pitfalls associated with this boat? I have read through previous posts and it seems the two things I should be aware of are: 1) A rudder fell off a new Wauquiez in the Solent a few years ago, and 2) Wauquiez is now owned by the Beneteau juggernaut. Is there anything else?

Here in France that boat is considered to be a poor buy against the equivalent Jeanneau 40DS. The Wuaquiez is a lot more expensive, but only slightly better quality than the Jeanneau. Just what I have read in French mags, and heard muttered around the docks - I have no direct experience of either.

Thanks for the feedback. What attracted me was the layout -- huge single "owner's cabin" in the stern, large adjoining head/shower, large forepeak cabin with adjoining heads. My wife and I are looking for something we could live on board for a month or so at a time, with room for the occasional visiting couple.
