Waterskiing in with a Glastron GT180 (vid)

Hi all,

Sometime ago my friend bought a Glastron GT 180 with a Mercury Optimax ProXS 150 to be used mainly as a tow boat for waterskiing, but also for day trips with the family. While not optimised for skiing, the package works very well also for that purpose as the Mercury has amazing amount of grunt and the boat is very stable.

Anyway, one evening a few weeks back I went to his summer cottage to enjoy the last bits of summer and took the change to play with my camera again. Apologies for spamming the forum with these vids, but here is a short clip of the boat and the skiing action.

Thank you.

As an aside, I remember the days when we used to ski barefoot behind a small boat with 50 hp on the back. We first sat feet forward on a knee board and waited for the boat to pick up enough speed and then slowly stood up. Took quite a few attempts... :).

Those were the days... Too old for it now.

Love it, very restrained use of the quad.

We used to have a fourwinns 195 speedboat with an inboard V8. Went camping at a place called Grendon lakes and still remember going out first thing in the morning when the water was like glass. You could hear the ski zing in the water.

Had a similar experience when I used to slalom ski at Princes cable park near Heathrow. There was no wake at all there, made up for the early start and cold water

Enjoyed the transition towards the beginning when the cuts speed up. After the first one you think oh, the timing is wrong on that one then the others follow and it makes sense.

Henry :)

Thank you Henry for the good comment :encouragement:, I need to review that. I wish I could claim it was planned but alas, I'm not as good as that... :)

Great video - makes it a little easier when you have quality raw footage from which to work. I’m just patching together some clips from last year - wish I’d at least tried to hold the camera steady....
Always enjoy seeing your videos pop up on my YouTube notifications SM :)

Great video, reminds me of my first barefoot trials. This was also with a 50 hp outboard (Johnson) on a 4meter little speedboat. It was great fun. We installed a bar across the boat an hanged on to it. The boat did reach 40 knots with one person onboard.

K,
EXCELLENT videography, and making us envious! We're having a 'ski day' tomorrow on one of the RIB's, probably the last of the season :(

Please keep the videos coming, to keep us happy throughout the winter!

Cheers, N!

Enjoy while it lasts!

There'll be shortage of footage as it'll be dark and cold soon for the next six months... :(

Sounds fun. Yep, it's amazing what you can do with 50hp. Would take a bit more than that to do barefoot now, though :).

What a fantastic video, your friend must be chuffed to bits with it.
Positively +1.

Sometimes I think to look for my very old slalom waterski VHS videos which I must have somewhere at home, convert them into digital files, and possibly post some bits...
...But looking at your current stuff, maybe not! :o

Though coming to think of it, I must have also some barefoot and air chair bits on those videos, which could be hilarious to watch in spite of a video quality nowhere near this!

You know, I was thinking exactly the same as I'm pretty sure I have some old VHS's of our skiing lying around somewhere.

There's thought for a winter challenge for us to find those tapes and post here the best bits :encouragement:?

I might give it a try.
I'm just not sure to be willing to see how thinner and with much less grey hairs I was... :ambivalence:
