can anyone recomend some kind of switch something cheap to control the flow of a sureflow 12 volt water pump this not exactly boaty but i am a window cleaner and would like to be able to turn up and down the flow of water (i thought of something like a dimmer switch )

The Maplin device might work but it is limited to a current of 3A continuous and 5A maximum.

You dont say which pump you have (presumably you mean Shurflo) so it is impossible to advise whether or not the device would be suitable.

If the pump has pressure switch control then an accumulator tank and flow control valve will be an option.

Tell us the pump model!

On second thought s ignore all that and read Twistedowner's reply below /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Simple way is to fit a bypass valve. All you need is two tee pieces and a valve. The more you open the bypass - the less the flow of water out of the end of the hose.

One of the sureflow pumps has variable output and is almost silent. You would just turn the tap at the end of the pipe and the pump would deliver the right pressure. They are expensive, I believe. Several posters here have installed them.

You still dont tell us what model pump it is. I assume you mean Shurflo not sureflow if so the 12volt fresh water pumps they list are rated at maximum currents of 4A to 14A. The smallest ones may just about be suitable for the Maplin controller but not the majority of the range
If you want to use the Maplin device check the model with the data on the Shurflo website and ensure yours is not rated at more than 5 amps max.

If you really do mean Sureflow then I cannot help as I have drawn a blank on that name. Perhaps it has the current rating marked on it.

Best idea is Twistedowner's.
