Waterproof pouches

Most of us have a use for such - e.g. carrying wallet, keys, passport - while on board or rowing to the pub. I've seen similar on sale in chandlers for many times the £1.99 price tag of these LIDL products. What size(s) they are and how robust, I've no idea, but I shall be looking out for them when next I pass the local store.

They were quite big when I saw them last week, we have a couple of the smaller rucksack type lidl sold a few years ago that we used when we were on a swinging mooring and they were quite hardy and did what they said on the packet

The one item I worry about is the car key fob which needs to be handy going from shore to boat but gets little protection in the pocket of my oilies.
I will take a look.

I wish we had a Lidl or Aldi here. Loads of posts going on the forum with lots of useful bits n bobs to be had at bargain prices but alas all well beyond my reach every time. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

You may be surprised at how tough these things are.

Last season instead of tucking my electronic ignition key in my Aquapac as usual I must have put it in an unsafe pocket.

Off we went from the slipway in our tender and returned to our mooring after a 4 hour sail. On securing the boat ready to depart back in the tender I realised I couldn't find the car key- we hunted high and low on the boat several times but as the tide was running out we were anxious not to get stuck out there so we beetled back to the landing in the hope that the car would be unlocked and the key in it.

It was not so I charged back in the dinghy for another fruitless search on the boat and returned even more quickly- dunking the new outboard in the oggin in the process- leaving me to flail madly with the oars to get the last dregs of tide to reach the bottom of the slipway.

Imagine my surprise whilst trudging up the slip to spy my key fob uncovered and lying about 40 feet below the point at which we had embarked some 4+ hours before, the tide had washed it straight down the slip.

Even more surprised to find that all the electronic commands worked, the car was unlocked and the ignition fired up the engine and off home we went- HUGE relief!

You were lucky Gin, twice now I have lost the electronic key overboard. As such I try not to take it sailing with me, the spare (non electronic) key has its own flotation device and is specially kept for when im heading out on the water!
