I am planning on removing my Navman plotter from it's current home in the inner cockpit coaming (previous owner fitted it there), and I'm thinking of moving the engine control panel to fill the hole that remains.
There is plenty of room behind for wiring etc.
I would like to fit it inside a waterproof enclosure with (preferably) a clear (perspex?) hinged access door.
I don't have dimensions yet, but it looks like a standard Yanmar control panel.

Just wondered if anyone has any links to websites or companies that sell / make this type of thing?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Dave,

You could look at Pelican cases. A lot of these have transparent lids and are the the dogs do-dahs when it comes to being water proof.

Personally I wouldn't want anything standing proud of the inner coaming as it makes the seat back and you would end up leaning against it at some point.

If it is in a place where you won't be leaning against it you could put it behind an opening port. I have seen this done to good effect on aft cabin bulkheads and on the front wall of the footwell.

Or, make it yourself.

I inherited one comprising a hardwood 4-sided frame, the top and bottom members projecting to provide for a routed groove for the sliding perspex access door.

Neat and absolutely watertight.

Thanks for the replies.

Vince, those Pelican cases look very interesting, although it isn't the sort of thing that I was looking for this particular application, I have bookmarked the site for future use :)
Part of the reason for wanting to move the chartplotter is because it is in the way as you describe.......I'm planning on the control panel to be set 'into' the coaming, and the access door to be flush (or nearly) with the coaming.

The opening portholes / hatches are probably the way to go, although the Vetus one's do look to be a bit of overkill for what I need.....they also seem to open inwards.......

Guernseyman, I might well end up making something myself, but I would like to find a ready made example if I could because I have another major 'manufacturing' job to do this haul-out........

Thanks for all the replies.
