Out watermaker was brill in Greece - independence! No noisy piers! Anchor for days! Etc.!!

What about the Baltic? Would it be anywhere near as useful?

We've used our PowerSurvivor 40E quite a bit in the Baltic. Since the water there has very low salinity to begin with, you'll be seeing results like 40ppm.

In early season the water is quite cold, so output will be reduced.

Marinas have free water, but watermaker can still make sense if you want to spend a lot of time at anchor. We got ours after the 2022 cruise to Finland. That summer was so dry that islands didn't have water to spare for visitors, so you had to always go to mainland to fill up.

Be a bit careful about blue algae blooms that can happen later in the summer. You don't want to drink that.

Blog makes it look perfect! The crew is not as keen on wind as she used to be - the Aegean is to blame - so idling about from anchorage to anchorage is just what we need. Thanks.

You're in for a treat. The southern part of Baltic doesn't have a lot of good anchorages, but once you're past Oskarshamn, there are protected anchorages to choose from every few miles. Some of them can get busy in July, but before June and after mid-August you'll have the whole archipelago for yourself.

Just grab Harbour Guides for Sweden (also available as app) and Great Harbour Books for Finland (also available in the Sailmate app), and you're all set.
Joining the Swedish Cruising Association might make sense, as then you can use their free mooring balls.

Thanks. Pity about 90/180 days.

In the Med not so much of a problem since we usually do early and then late season, though maintenance not so easy to fit in.

Cruising Association say watermaker not so useful in the Baltic. I may just put in extra water tanks. The Fulmar only has 135l. A pittance to my crew.

It's certainly not mandatory. There are abundant small inexpensive harbours with free water. It's never, in our 10 years of cruising there, been any problem getting water.

But if you have a watermaker, you'll certainly use it.
