I have been trying, unsuccessfully to find a previous thread that provided details of a good supplier recommended by forumites. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I seem to remember the firm was based in the North somewhere.

I have always had good service from uni-flo.com. They are agents for Sea Recovery but pickling solution is universal (though seems to vary in quality) and membranes are sometimes interchangeable.

Five or more years ago, Spectra sent out a batch of pickle that was not compatible with the plastics used in the construction and there were many failures. To their credit, Spectra repaired and replaced all damaged units without questions even for non-original purchasers (that included me). Now I won't use anything but Spectra branded pickle but since we (only) pickle once or twice a year a cost of a few pounds a pot really isn't worth the risk.

I am very happy with our Spectra and would add that a battery watermaker is hugely more flexible in use than a mains-driven one.

Spectra agents for chemicals in Portsmouth are Furneaux RRiddell tel no 02392668621.They have always sent out Spectra chemicals by next day post and they are no more expensive than any others.
