water temperatures

i, wanted to check something to make sure everything is working fine...I have 2 volvo penta kad 42s on fairline targa 34. What should the normal water temperature be at cruising? At the moment I am noticing that at 1500rpm both engines have 78 degrees Celsius temperature but when cruising at 3000rpm with 14psi on the turbo boost gauge starboard engine (which also supplies geezer) is keeping at 82 degrees Celsius whilst the port engine goes to 87 degrees. Is it normal to not have both engines at same temperature? I tried 3500rpm for few minutes and port engine went up to 93 and starboard to 88 degrees...when I decreased the rpm to 3000 the temperatures went back to 82 and 87. Should I worry or are temperatures in good levels? Thanks

I always found on our old boat with kad42s the engine with the calorifire warmed up faster than the other engine as the immersion heater kept the water at 55 deg and this has the effect to pre heats the engine coolant , I think the increase In surface area provided by the coil in tank makes the engine cooler once it gets to temperature

In fact when going out of harbour at 1500rpm, the engine with the calorifier (starboard) warms up faster to 78 degrees....but then when I plain the boat the port engine warms more....Is it good temperature to have the engine at 3000rpm at 87/88 degrees? It doesn't go higher than that given I don't go over 3100/3200rpm

Are you judging from the guage or using a IR thermometer on the thermostat housing? I find the guage is accurate to about 80C then seems to accelerate over reading actual temp due to wiring connections being a bit aged and dirty. So an actual IR measurement of 85 will read 95 on the gauge and 90 as 100 whereas 80 is 80. In general usless I'm thrashing the engines both sit at 85 and I've not seen them above 90 except when due a rydlyme session.

Try a infra red / laser thermometer on top of the thermo state houses then report back .
Its not unknown for the insulation to deteriorate with heat / age in the loom resulting in spurious signals to the gauges .

so far only on gauge...for first two weeks of use temps were roughly same ...starboard engine always 82 and port engine not more than 84...I will try with the IR will test it this week. ... I was also thinking about calling an electrician to check the gauges

The calorifier will draw heat so that makes sense
