Water Taxi in Alderney

As part of a weeks sailing in September I am planning on visiting Alderney.
Haven't been there before but have been advised that there is a water taxi service.
Does anyone know the times of operation and the rt channel to call.

Yup run by mainbrayce CH 80 M (approx pound a head) run 0800- midnight if I remember rightly. Or use your tender and outboard

Worth the pound a head if its a bit breezy. Not as bad as the days when we used to land on the breakwater and climb the vertical ladders though!

May I ask if the forum has become a substitute for reading the nautical almanac? I guess you wanted the answer before you got down to the boat to look it up, right?

Oldhand, you're correct. As usuall, and its entirely my own doing, I have left most of my paperwork, charts and almanac on the boat, which I won't be visiting for a week or so. I was merely enquiring in case anyone knew off the top of their heads.

I always keep an out of date Almanac at home, its usually better than having none at all. That's why I could assure you the answer is in Macmillans!

if its out of date, how do you know the info is still current. I found Mainbrayce a right pain in the arse. Radioed them, they said they'd be with us in 5 mins, waited 25 mins, radioed again, said they were busy and would be with us in 20 minutes. I replied "Dont worry, we'll blow up the dinghy.".. which we did and saved ourselves some dosh and time!

Good idea about keeping old almanacs. Unfortunately, my last old edition met with a very sad ending. It was as much use as a chocolate teapot. Sorry to hear about your experiences, Jimi. Wasn't sure if the taxi was year round or just seasonal, with a limited service off peak. Thanks all for the replies. Surprised that there was such speedy response. No-one out sailing?

IME some of the boatmen in the past did like a drink or two but then most of the passengers were sloshed on the 10 and 11pm runs so nobody used to mind. Having said that all was well this year apart from the timing of the late evening ferries which were as erratic as ever.

Ah but Jimi, I didn't give the answer to the question as asked, I only checked the information was published in an out of date almanac as I thought it was safe to assume the current information would still be published in this years publication. I thus passed on where one would expect it to be available.

Cunning bugger ;-) Must admit I keep an old almanac as well .. but keep it on the boat in case I forget the current one which I take home with me for passage planning etc!!

Passage Planning ? Tried it this year for heading to Isles of Scilly but ended in Cherbourg.

Another bit of paperwork for b***er all.

Must start to plan my route to work on Monday; may get lost on the local roads.

Always anchor in Alderney. It is £2 I think instead of whatever it is now. Use your own dinghy and outboard. Saves a lot of hanging around.
