For the last 15 years I have emptied my water tanks for winter and then when refilled (in the spring) have used puricle etc, to clean them suitable for use. What do other forumites do????

Since fifteen years I go to the local pharmacy every year and ask for "Chloramine"( it has a relatively short shelflife ) . It's fairly cheap compared to the liquid gold from the chandlers and caravanshops. It's a powder , you dissolve some in a pint of water, and then pour it in the tank . Just add water, but make your maths first: you should end up with a 2 - 5 % solution. With flexible tanks, half full is more than enough. Let it stand for at least three hours, but 24 is more like it, depending on the temperature. Yes, it smells of clorine, but it is not toxic, and it disappears quickly after flushing. Kills most bugs, but is especially effective against protozoa (flagellates), who thrive in water tanks, but are not killed by some of the formulations. I work in a microbiology lab, so don't ask how I know...

Cheers
