I need a device to suck water up out of some deep spaces. A good few gallons.

Ideally it needs to be something like a 12v or 24v suction pump, with a length of flexi hose and a 3ft long wand for reaching down, with a second hose to eject overboard. And cheap.

Suggestions?

If you get a Pela vacuum pump you can use it for changing your engine oil as well.

Not enough capacity, I need quite a lot of gallons shifting. I've tried with a Pela and it was hopeless, going to take hours. I dont really want a tank, ideally discharge straight into the sea.

Whale Gulper with a strainer on the suction line. I had exactly the set up you describe on my Turbo 36, but it doubled up as the fwd shower sump drain pump. With a wandering suction I could empty anywhere in the engine bay down to a few mm.

Cheap drill pump?

Looks like they won;t pull water vertically, I need to come up about 4ft.

To costly Trev.

Would a wet vacuum do it? Obvs I had to keep emptying it.

Would a pressure washer do this ? Just a thought as you may already own one - or know someone who does ? Not 12 volt though.
Small submersible 12 volt bilge pumps are available - about £13 according to Google.

Yes it would work. I use my old Vax vacuum / carpet cleaner machine to suck up a lot of bilge water and even the diesel dregs from the tanks. I have a new Karcher vacuum now and have used that to suck up water from boat. Both have shut of balls should the liquid level inside the drum be too much. I kept an old filter installed. The diesel tank and bilge was about 3' head and lifted no problem.

thanks, in that case I think a cheap wet vac might be the answer.

I bought a 12v water pump from ebay.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-DC-1...var=521385971599&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

It sucks up from a 4ft long hose and delivers to a very long squirty water pistol.

Flow rate is not enormous (I guess 1l in 10 to 15 seconds.

I use it to wash mud from the horse's legs. It is very good at the job, quiet, and with a n output that can be varied from a thin jet to a wide cone.

Do Lidl not sell cheap 12v pumps sometimes? I have one but have seen others who from comments made were not that impressed however might be better than nothing ? Meant for oil I know but might suffice if mains supply not available.

Almost every boat should have a manual bilge pump anyway.
I have a portable one like a stirrup pump, cheap plastic thing but it's good for this kind of job, emptying the tender after rain etc. Also good for deck washing.

Look again at drill pumps, I have one of these, https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke-cpp3000b-drill-powered-pump/?da=1&TC=GS-060220102&gclid=Cj0KCQiAp8fSBRCUARIsABPL6JYqHBCRwYGnBW4Lr7DipW9Pq_uYTjNQthsMgCroS3lmgMuYuz1cqXcaAjsYEALw_wcB which self primes up to 2m. I says 3/4 inch hose, but I found garden hose fitted inside the nozzle and I secured it with duct tape.

Thanks, that looks better

Yes, have both onboard, but a bit of a faff to use the stirrup pump in this place.

What about a hand held manual bilge pump?

It's also really great to have as a backup backup pump on the boat too.

Same with me. I used a three-way valve to T into the Whale Gulper shower pump, then attached a flexible tube long enough to reach anywhere in the boat. Very handy for many jobs, eg slurping the last few litres out of the bottom of the water tanks.
