Water softener

Anyone have one? Why?

Neither at home or aboard. Calcium is good for the bones and water softeners replace calcium with a dose of sodium.

On the boat or at home?
Meant to get one at home but never got round to it. New house has one. Reason is that we live in a hard water area and a softener improves showers etc and reduces lime scale in the system (hot water tank etc). They don't do the drinking water....separate tap for that

Have one at home, makes big difference to the life of taps, its also easier to keep shower glass clean, would recommend to anyone, drinking water from seperate tap un softened.

I've got one at home, marvellous device. I imagine that one made for a boat would have no need of a salt container.

Fitted one 25 years ago in our house as very hard water. Finally got fed up with the cost of salt and maintenance about 8 years ago and took it out. I have not really noticed much difference to showers/hot water tanks etc. My honest opinion? Don't bother.

For the boat. I'm annoyed at how often I have to clean strainers of calcium deposits which supplies to taps and the loos.

If the water is coming from your tanks try dropping a salt tablet into the tank.it might work!
