water pump rebuild

I have a water pump rebuild kit for yanmar 2gm20. Although I have taken the surclip off the old assembley I am unable to get the assembley out of the housing without using a hammer! Anybody know how it should come out. Or should I buy a complete new pump...

A couple of years ago I had the same problem with a YSM waterpump. In the end I took it to my Yanmar dealer they took it apart for me at no charge other than for the new parts I required. They did recommend I buy a complete new pump, but were satisfied when I said I just wanted to replace the shaft, bearings and seals.

I bought a complete new pump but kept the old one as a quick replacement should the impellor fail. {Problem with doing up the pump is that the back face of the pump wears as well as the front plate and its efficiency isnt fully recovered by the repair kit

put the pump in boiling water for 2-3 minutes then tap the shaft out with the bearings in situ. If your not keen on the water then heating slowly with a blowtoch on the bronze will do the same.
