I'm new on a swinging pontoon in Portsmouth, where can I fill my water tank without having to pay?

Normally if you go to the fuel barge at Campers and ask nicely when you buy fuel they seem to say yes, you can go alongside their outer pontoon to the North.

Can I suggest you join Hardway Sailing Club. As I also have a swinging mooring in Portsmouth I find the facilities invaluable............... and the beer cheap.
The club also welcomes visiting yachtsmen....and therefore I assume yachtswomen

You raise a very valid point for those of us on moorings who seldom, if ever, visit marinas. Obtaining water can often by far harder than obtaining fuel or gas.
Yes, a fuel pontoon MAY let you fill up with water......but how often does a sailing boat need fuel? Many of the easiest fuelling points (such as the Cowes barge) either do not have water or are far too busy.
In Chichester Hbr we are lucky with two public pontoons with water by hose.
Water by can is only slightly easier, and depends on knowing the location of the few 'public' taps .... or having the nerve to go into a random marina and fill up a dingy-full of cans from a pontoon.
The older pilot books made a point of mentioning where public taps were, but this information is now sparse, and often out-of-date. Maybe we could create an up to date resource on YBW.

Wicormarine has water on the pontoon, accessible about 1.5 hours either side of HW, just pop up to the office to ask during office hours and should be helpfull

If going for just a weekend I take a 5 gallon can of water from home, rather than risk dubious stuff - I was once very ill after having water from a certain Channel Island, I later found there was weed growing in their tank !
A long time ago, I'm sure it's better now.
In Chichester Harbour one can pay for a short stay in Northney Marina ( channel 80, or 02392 466321 ) and top up water - and fuel.
Or if it's HW + or - 1-2 hours, go alongside the Ship Inn at Langstone wharf ( Chichester side ) I'm sure they could supply tap water, or sell bottles of the mineral stuff, or Langstone SC on the bridge would if someone asked, 02392 484577.
In Portsmouth, at HW one option would be to call Gosport Boatyard and if they agree go alongside their pontoon, getting water from the Jolly Roger pub.
Unless topping up 20+ gallons of the stuff though I prefer to buy the big bottles of mineral water, trustworthy germ free and the empty bottles are always useful as temporary mooring markers.

I used to always use bottled water for drinking and cooking, because the tank water did not get turned over fast enough.
If you refill a couple of 2litre bottles every time you go ashore, that covers a lot of normal use.

Have you checked with your mooring provider? GBY, Wicor and Hardway all have their own water points for their respective mooring holders.
