Can anyone help me ? I'm looking for an 11'' long, 1 Kw max immersion heater element with a 1 1/4'' bsp thread for my Vetus calorifier on my boat in Spain. I know I can buy them relatively cheaply out there but I would prefer to purchase here and take it over.

I would also like it to be a Nicalloy or Euralloy for durability ,which I have never been able to find in Spain anyway !!

If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful.

Thanks

You can buy them from Vitesse in Fareham.

Thanks for your quick reply. I should have mentioned I don't want a Vetus one particularly as they are 4 times the price of the off the shelf domestic model available on the continent, and they are copper sheathed so only last p***ing time under normal conditions !!

Thanks anyway !!

Seller on Ebay has them last time I looked as am thinking of fitting on to my calorifier.

You must use a double insulated marine version otherwise the earth will continually trip!

Not true. I have used continental domestic models always and never had a problem. The first time the trip goes is when the element has started to breakdown, just as in a domestic situation. Incidentally I am a plumber with over 25 years experience and have fitted plenty of immersions.

The problem lies in the word B.O.A.T. - Bring-Out-Another-Thousand. Add the word Marine and you need a mortgage to buy anything !!!

I have found a couple of elements, however with the cost being between £67 and £57 pounds I will wait till I get back to Spain and buy from the local electrical wholesaler again. I can buy 2 for about Euro 30 !!

The standard copper sheathed immersion will last about 2 to 3 years in my experience, this is due to the high temperatures in the cylinder from engine use. I cannot see an Incalloy / Euralloy lasting 4 times longer under the same conditions so cannot justify the increased cost.

Thanks to all.
