Folks,
Don't know if these filters have ever been changed, so want to do so to be safe!

Can anyone tell me where I would get replacements?

Below is a few bad pics (sorry!). There is a Cranchi Sticker with a label 'Reg 30', that's the only way I have of identifying them.

Thanks!

I'l be very interested in the responses too, my mates got one in his engine bay, I dont think there is a filter to change.

My guess is its a water separator designed for removing free water however any emulsified water is at liberty to pass.

With the increasing risk of emulsified water in bio fuel and various additives being added at source I think you need an extra filter/housing in line where you can use a filter that includes a water separator able to remove emulsified water .
Hopefully laterstarter will be along soon but I think you need FS1000

Well, the label seems to say "Clean the filter every 200 hours". I'd follow that indication, to start with... :)
That said, I suppose you'll have to ask a Cranchi dealer if you want to change them.
If you wish to know the OEM builder to possibly save a crust, you'll have to look for some other references on the filter - if any.
That label doesn't say a lot in this respect.

I'll go digging deeper the next day i'm in the engine bay. I certainly do not want to have to contact an agent for a filter when I can most likely get it myself quite easily. I had just hoped that someone may have had the same experience as me in the past!

I'll take more photos/look for other identifiers when i'm next at the boat.

Thanks

Hi All,

Newbie Here.

I don't think the sticker says REG 30 but PFG 30, which are the same as fitted to my 2003 Cranchi Endurance 33.

I spoke to Abersoch Land and Sea and they told me they are Pre Filters with Metal 30 micron elements that can be removed and cleaned.

I am in the process of getting the infamous Volvo Paul to replace them with Racor FG500 filters with the cheap replaceable elements as I don't fancy trying to clean them out whilst on the move if it were necessary.

The 30 may refer to a 30 micron spec. which Racor offers. I have Separ filters and these are identical to the Racor but more than twice the price. Racor 500 look pretty good to me especially if they have the clear base.

Hi,

After speaking to Cranchi, the OEM filters PFG30 do not have replaceable elements. They have metal filter elements that are only designed to be cleaned.

Not quite sure how you would do this on the move.

I had mine changed for Racor units that did have replaceable paper elements.

I do have two original Cranchi OEM fuel filters that came off my Endurance 33 which are identical to the photos supplied by the OP, which will be going up on Ebay shortly.

My Gobbi's (now owned for over twenty years in total between two models) had/have similar cleansable (Nauco) filters, and I never had problems even when local fuel was not one of the cleanest.
Read before Malta entry in the EU and sulfur rate in diesel was above 15%.

But what I always did is to clean them minimum once per season, sometimes even twice. Second happens before a long cruise.
I think the 200 engine hour cleanse routine is long stretch considering I do on average about 50 per season, so I clean every year.

At some point I was very much interested in changing to Racors as well, but since they never gave any problems in such a long test of time why should I.

Ironically I had people cruise with me who have Racors or Sapers and they had a few fuel issues at some point, while I had nill.
I usuall clean them by emptying them, with a bucket underneath, clean the metal filter, and then pump fuel back to engine plus remove air.
It's a process which takes about 2-3 hours.

Saying all this I still think a Racor water separation fuel filtering system is better to this.

Hi all, hopefully someone still monitoring this thread. Just inherited these fuel water separators on my (new to me) 2003 Cranchi 37. What's the process to drain the water from them please? I presume the thumb screw (has 2 flats for a spanner also) and spring at the bottom facilitates draining off the water somehow? I've searched and can't find any instructions online if anyone has done it and can help please?
