Just a quick question.. I have a 1992 mecruiser alpha one drive..
I have attached a picture with a red arrow to show where i am getting some water when running on muffs, Can someone tell me if this is normal?

If its coming from behind the gimbal housing then no its not normal. Up there is a hose which carries the water under pump pressure across to the transom shield and then onto the motor. you should only see water running out from the prop and most of it will be running from the two bypass ports low down each side of the shield each side of the anode.
You really need to have the drive off, it could be just leaking from the O ring between the drive and gimbal house or it could be from the water hose which is loose or split, you can insert a hose pipe into the water passage when the drive is off to create some pressure to see where it leaks from.

I thought it would be the O-ring as i had the drive of to replace the tilt/trim sender and limit switch.. I thought maybe it didnt go back in straight an didnt notice water coming from here before, ive only have the boat a few weeks and its my first inboard.

Just looking at the video and it seems mine is the same, I think i will take drive of in the week after work just to be sure as i want the boat for the weekend :)

the water as in the video has already circulated around the engine and you generally replace the gasket and o-ring as a set when maintaining the gimbal bearing.it would be better to make sure it stays cool by replacing the impellor on a bi yearly event as this is what picks the water up and sends it via the inboard water pump to circulate.your drive looks in good physical condition as its a trailered boat but an oil check/change may be a good to give you some assurance of its reliability.
if you are going to look after the drive yourself and keep this style of boat an alignment bar is a must to check its alignment with the coupling on the flywheel.

Ok i couldnt wait and decided to take the drive of make sure everything has gone back as it should, o ring is in place. I took a video to show where im getting water? Is it normal? Not sure what else it could be?

cor, that was a quick bump, give it time, busy busy peeps on here don't cha know ;)

p.s. best not to run the sterndrive with the leg trimmed up for an extended period of time if you can help it, not great for the gimbly bearing thingamy wotzit apparently

Haha, Sorry about that.. Things playt on my mind and im never happy untill there sorted :) I only had the trim up to capture the video!!!

Have read the thread and it seems I don't need exhaust bellows, but I have checked them and all seems OK?!? I guess having a water leak isn't that bad as it going to be under water, I would still like to get to the bottom of this as I like this is working as they should.. I will have yet another inspection later but its bard as you need it running to see the leak but when its pissing water its hard to get down there and have a look... (need goggles)
