watch out BOGUS BUYERS !!

I recieved an email from boats and out boards for sale, warning me of an iffy responce to my add. Next email was the one Phil had warned me about See below

Hello friend,
I saw your advert on the web and i am intrested in
your Boat, i want to inform you that i am base in
Amstarrdam in Holland

I am ready to pay 9,000 to secure the purchase of the Boat
If my offer is okay,kindly reply back as soon as you
get this message or mail back
Thanks.

payment will be in u.s

The end of the email was full of crap as well.
How can any one be daft enough to fall for this !!

I take my hat off to boats and outboards who are on the job and looking out for their advertisers.

Mick, you're right, boatsandoutboards do an excellent job looking out for hoaxers/spoofers/conmen. They warn their advertisers.

It's amazing how many people fall for this stuff. People still get duped by that nigerian blocked money scam email that's been around for years. There was a poor guy on the car radio yesterday morning, he fell for the scam where someone tells you you have won a million on the Canadian national lottery, all you have to do is pay £9000 now to get a (bogus)firm to collect the prize money for you. This poor pensioner had paid the £9k, lost his life savings basically. Sad, but pretty stupid on his part too......

Surely any one who is stupid enough to fall for this deserves to pay dearly, after all it's greed on their part isn't it. Although one has to feel sorry for their loss, common sense would have to say that if you don't subscribe to the Canadian national lottery, it stands to reason that you couldn't win it!

Actually I'd like to know who or where these !!! are getting home phone numbers and addresses for elderly and possibly vulnerable people.
I think it's appalling that local councils sell information to companies who try to flog stuff to you and I, but is this one way or not for the information to get out . Do companies like age concern control there info correctly ?.

Yes, I had 3 such responses when I advertised, but to the credit of boatsandoutboards, they advised me of hoaxers as soon as I placed the ad.

I too feel sorry for vulnerable people who are pray for all manner of low life scumbag conmen. However I saw the Gentleman refered too previously who had fallen "victim" to the Canadian lottery scam, on a television interveiw. He did not come over as particularly old or vulnerable. Therefore you have to summise he is either gready , foolish or both. How the hell does a relatively intelligent person not realise that they do'nt even do the Canadian lottery.

I agree, but the media didn't relay the story in full detail. Firstly, the 'Canadian Lottery' send maillers to loads of people in the UK saying they can play. The recipient sends their £10 or whatever...it's after then that they are told they have won. It's because they paid to play that they think they have won. The whole thing is a scam from the start - there is no Canadian Lottery.

I have had several such responses - they often emanate from Nigeria and are a common scam - thousands are sent and someone must fall for it...!
