Wasted heat on diesel heater exhausts - Eberspacher etc

The going rate seems to be about £550 for a D3LC, for example. Hardly "surprisingly cheap" is it?

Surprised me, when you look at the price of most Ebo stuff. Webo ones are much cheaper though, as are Mikuni. It's the sole reason I wouldn't take on an Ebo dealership, I spend enough time apologising for prices already without them.

Going back to the original question, is it really worth it? Unless you are full-time liveaboard, I doubt that you spend more than £100 per year on heating fuel - seems to me that you are likely to put in a lot of effort and get back ten or twenty quid per annum - if you are lucky!

Yes but it's not the money side of things in this case. The amount of diesel burnt is as you say small, it is just the fact that when the wind really blows and we've had a pleasant but chilly sail in early spring or late autumn, we could get all the warmer even quicker and extend the heating to go into other places with greater efficiency for that short period it's wanted.
Wet lockers, heads, towel rail etc could all be heated that bit easier if I knew i could run the hydronics pipes round a few more bits of the boat.

swmbo would love to shower off after a tough day before settling down with a tot under the cuddy of the conservatory.... perhaps its' just a case of opening up the lazarette door and sticking a big fan behid the 'boilers' exhaust and push the hot air out with carbon monoxide alarm in place?? :)
