Do remember guys we are talking about another specie here i think killing them should always be a last resort. to be honest i don’t kill anything unless i have to or my life is put in direct danger. i think the best bet would be to get a bee suit and remove the nest and re locate it in a tree or something, after all they have rights to be on this earth as much as we do
I was a bee keeper for years so the information I give you is correct!
This time of year the queen wasp leaves the nest to hibernate for the winter. The wasps then have no leader so they start behaving badly! that is why people are pestered this time of year by wasps. They are hungry abd have no leader and no job to do as no young to rear any more. After a few weeks the nest dies out and will not start up again! Wasps are angry this time of year because of all the above reasons! therefore you will get stung many times! Try to get a bee keeper to pick up the nest and remove it, or just leave it and wait! they will all die out. If you remove the nest you must also move the boat as wasps will keep going back to the same place until they die. Now if they are bees you really do have a bit more of a problem! The queen remains alive throughout the winter attended to by a far smaller number of bees but they still pack a nasty punch if you attack the nest! Again, get a bee keeper to sort it! By the way wasps have a yellow/black stripped body and honey bees have a brown and black body.
I'm just driving the dingy , i have my electric outboard all charged up and ready to go but now i'm thinking maybe the 5hp 2stroke might be a better idea
I'm looking forward to messing about on the river to be honest , i dont think ive been out this year
Its up to my mate what he wants to do about the wasps , i aint getting stung for anyone
Well we unloaded a can of raid under the canopy and got out of the way pretty fast . Couldnt find a nest anywhere and managed to get on board with out getting stung at all . Very odd .
Lensman, I think you may be right, we had a couple of Willow arches in our garden and they were covered with wasps during the summer, I was convinced we had a nest somewhere. I got the pest control chap to smoke them off and then chopped them down but no nest. He told mme that the Willow family of trees tend to attract wasps.
