Wasp trailing log

Was not made by the same people, but a "cheap" copy - but still potential reliable with the same provisos. That is, not very good at slow speeds, only shows distance run (most models), needs care in mounting to run in clear water and can suffer from fouled spinner.

Mine shows speed

I don't think I have ever seen a distance only Wasp - in fact, I think the fact that they showed speed was their selling point.

PS I have a brand new spinner and line for a Wasp sitting in my kitchen drawer, gathering dust. I could easily be persuaded to part with it.

Yes, you are right. Walkers are mostly just distance. From memory you could also get a Wasp that was cable driven rather than trailing.

Walkers came in two flavours: the KDO (Knotmaster Distance Only) and the KDS (Knotmaster Distance and Speed). I saw a MkIII KDS for the first time last weekend, at the West of Scotland Boat Jumble, and was almost tempted except that (a) I don't care about speed, much (b) I have nowhere to put the speed dial and (c) I already have three KDOs, and the tapping of the feet would be great if I introduced another one to the home ...

I think you're right. Someone (Lakesailor? Searush?) was looking for the cable for one recently. I think Sumlogs used a drive cable at one time too.

I have a Wasp speed that's incredibly accurate. On a trip from Porto Santo to the Algarve done in one tack it showed 500nm .The real distance is 490nm.Not bad.The problem is that I'm down to my last spinner and don't know where to find a spare.
