Just been discussing intruder deterrents and a new idea was mentioned (at least to me) so I thought I would pass it on.
Wasp spray. the kind that squirts about 15 or 20 feet.
Easy to use, is not illegal anywhere unlike some self defense sprays, and has the added benefit of being good for getting rid of unwanted wasp nests should you find yourself facing that problem.

I know many people have many views on personal and property protection, this is not an attempt to start another guns or no guns thread, just a new idea on legal non lethal safety.

Also recommend dry powder (messy) or CO2 fire extinguishers. Added benefit is that they also become a good 'hitting' weapon when emptied.

Not much use against an Uzi etc but handy for the chancers.

Note that (as has been posted in other threads here in respect of knives) that your intent is what determines whether something you carry is an offensive weapon. So if you do have anti-wasp spray about you then you have to intend to use it on wasps...

We've got Pepper Spray...............but only so that we can season food on the barbie from 20 feet

Plus a Ceremonial Sword incase Queenie comes a visitin. It has a back-up use as an emergency razor.

Using wasp spray for self defense is a myth and a VERY bad idea!!

Even if you wish to disregard that it’s illegal to use (The canister labels states "It is a violation of Federal Law to use in any manner inconsistent with this label. NEVER USE INDOORS!”), what justifications are there for using wasp spray? There is zero proof it will be effective.

The problems with wasp spray are many. First no human testing has been conducted. Second, the canister deploys a stream. Try hitting a threat at 20 feet away with a slow foamy stream from a wasp spray....it won't happen. Most wasp sprays will not spray 20 feet, regardless of their label claim. Check it out for yourself.

If you are going to use a non-lethal form of defense, use pepper spray. Unlike wasp spray, pepper spray has been designed to specifically to stop humans, dogs and even bears. Pepper spray is legal to use in self defense and is trusted and relied on by police departments worldwide.

The biggest advantage pepper spray provides is it doesn't require pain to incapacitate because of its inflammatory effects. Superior to wasp spray, pepper spray slams the eyes shut and causes a loss of breath sensation which makes it effective even if the attacker is drunk, on drugs or is emotionally disturbed and cannot feel pain. When facing a threat and you've chosen a non-lethal option, do you want something that can stop a wasp or a bear? Go with pepper spray. It’s legal and PROVEN!

If you can't hit a human, how are you supposed to hit a wasp?
