Washing warps

Waiting my turn for a lift out at Dickies last week, pinned to a lee wall, I thought myself very smart to persuade a smaller yacht first to raft up alongside me, then to take a long line with her when she made her way to the weather wall. The same line was used to turn me round when it was discovered that Freestyle's forestay prevented her from getting far enough over the slings. The same line was then passed repeatedly around very greasy hoist wires.

Nice hoist out, but finished with my best long line (£70 quid from a boat jumble) covered in black grease. It's nice and clean again now, after a week of soaking, scrubbing and rinsing, but the effort leaves me wondering if there isn't a simpler way of cleaning warps.

Don't say "bung it in the washing machine while SWMBO is out playing tennis". One, it's banned. Two, I've tried it - however neatly I secure the coil, it comes undone and 30 metres of knot takes some undoing. Also the washing machine makes like to drill a hole in the floor, it vibrates so much.

Should I try the concrete mixer next?

Put the warp in the washing machine a fine net bag - works very well.

Get on to a swinging mooring and chuck it over the side for a tide or two (remembering to secure one end or the other to boat). Slow but silent and you can have a brew while you wait

washing machine in a pillow case, whilst wife, girlfriend, mother etc is out. other wise self service werly wash.

I use the marina washing machine Ssssssh! and put it in net laundry bags and tie the top, they come out wonderfully clean, lots of powder, prferably non bio. I also use fabric conditioner on my sheets, make 'em luverly and soft on me dannies! Some folk say never use fabric conditioner, never found out why.

Put two ropes in 2 pillow cases into the machine together so they can balance each other.

Everybody forgot the most important of all - <span style="color:red"> tie the ends of the warp together </span> this means you have a tangle, but no knots! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
