I called an elderly retired friend today and his spritely wife anwered the phone saying "You do'nt want to know what xxxxx is doing at the moment!" Upom enquiring as to whether he was on ra throne or not, she replied I'll let himself tell ye. Well it transpired he was washing his mooring lines with a pressure washer. This was a difficult task as the mooring lines snaked about the empty swimming pool and himself skited ffrom wall to wall on decaying beech leaves. I asked if there was'nt a village laundrette he could try but he was a bit worried that if he overstayed his time in the local whilst they were washing,he would return to find some old dear ironing them.

The question is, what errand do you send the wife on to give you adequate time to wash your lines in the washing machine without her ever becoming aware of it and/or is ironing harmful to warps?

One maintains said machine so one uses it at will :)

I rent a washing machine so I can wash anything I want in it. If it shakes itself to bits they bring me a new one. I don't rent anthing else because that would be stupid.

I find that if I take them out of the tumble drier before they are fully dry I can just hang them in the wardrobe and avoid the ironing.....

:D

I'm told that German-owned online chandlery bunch have a fitting that clips onto one's domestic smoothing iron which has a groove down the centreline ideal, and intended, for the straightening of mooring warps.

It is available in several sizes, apparently, to suit different diameters, but only in metric, of course.... 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 16mm.

I'm not able to comment on the 'steam' function as I have a rather limited exposure to 'ironing'.... :D

Washing mooring lines ??

Running rigging yes, but mooring warps really is a step too far!

An old boy round here pressure-washes his lines but has an attachment for it. I haven't seen it but gather that it is T-shaped and the rope is passed through the cross-bar with the nozzle in the upright. He swears by it but I think we'll stick to the washing-machine.
