We are off to the Med for 6months + next year & are considering buying a manual washing machine seen advertised for about £40. Has anyone got & used one? would be interested to know if it is worth the money or whether it is no better than a bucket of water!!!

SWMBO rates ours highly though I have to say it has sticky out bits that make it difficult to stow. Also make sure the lid is fitted properly & locked in place, SWMBO found it bounced just once on the pontoon before dropping swiftly to the bottom. By the way some of the Sunday Suplement mail order catalogues have them at £30 'ish.

I live in the MED for the last 50 years,you will find autmatic washing machine in most marinas in area, when not bucket will do the job,the manual machine is waste of space.

I have got both a windy handle one (farely good, if a bit tiring) and a Tefal Table top one which is excellent (mains powered). You can pick both types up secondhand out of Freeads/Lute type papers! A couple of ladies that I have seen in same marina use the Tefal ones!

As to the original question, we had a hand -wound washer and found bits broke too easily, it was annoying to wind/agitate,and it needed too much storage space. - Nool pwung!
